Our contribution to the Coonawarra BESS project included three of our 5 MWh energy storage units and a step-up transformer station with PCS. The equipment is all installed and ready to support the solar power generation on the site.

BRUN-BESS-5MWh-0.5C is a versatile, modular BESS made by Brunstock. It is an outdoor battery container that supports fast frequency modulation with the 416S12P pack that contains 48 batteries with 104 cells each. The integrated liquid cooling and heating system protects the battery system, which is also equipped with fire detection, alarm and suppression technology. The round trip efficiency (RTE) is 93% and its operating temperature ranges is -20°C to 45°C.

Kookaburra Power Technologies is delivering a 15MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for Flow Power’s Coonawarra Energy Project. The system includes three 5MWh battery containers, each with a 4.6MW inverter output, along with a step-up transformer station—all manufactured by Brunstock.

Located in South Australia, the Coonawarra site is designed to host a 5MW solar farm paired with the 15MWh BESS. This combination ensures grid stability and load balancing, particularly during periods of peak electricity demand.

The KTECK BESS will also support FCAS (Frequency Control Ancillary Services), helping to strengthen and stabilise the regional electricity grid. As energy needs grow across South Australian businesses, the Coonawarra project contributes to the broader transition towards clean, reliable power.

Built for Australia, backed by Brunstock

KTECK proudly represents Brunstock in Australia — a company dedicated to environmentally friendly power solutions. Brunstock’s battery energy storage systems are engineered specifically for Australia’s rugged and remote landscapes. From the high-quality workmanship in the exterior facings and welding to the galvanised steel base, Brunstock BESS is built tough for demanding conditions.

Inside each cabinet, liquid-cooled batteries meet both IEC and Australian standards, ensuring reliability and high efficiency. Brunstock BESS supports network construction and fast frequency modulation, making it a robust solution for modern energy infrastructure.

KTECK’s battery energy storage systems integrate long-life batteries, a battery management system (BMS), a thermal management system (TMS), a safety management system (SMS), and an intelligent power distribution system (IPD) — all housed within a standard 20-foot container.

We are proud to work with Flow Power on both the BESS and the required step-up transformers for the Coonawarra Solar Farm. Equipment is scheduled to arrive in Australia and be delivered to site in the second half of 2025, where it will be tested, commissioned and put into service.
