Supercharge Your Energy Future with KTECK and Brunstock Batteries

The role of grid-scale batteries within Australia’s fast-evolving energy landscape is crucial to enable a future powered by renewables. With KTECK’s Brunstock battery energy storage systems, you can be at the forefront of this transformation.

Why We Need Brunstock Batteries in the Aussie Grid

Solar farms, wind and other renewable energy plants are already providing clean, low-cost energy to parts of Australia. This helps reduce the use of fossil fuels need to generate electricity in Australia’s energy grids. When the sun is not shining or the wind is not blowing at your energy plant, you can rely on an energy storage system to maintain the flow of electricity. With the increase of BESS in Australia, our reliance on fossil fuels, like gas and coal, will decrease. This enables continuous progress toward Australia’s net zero by 2050 (source).

With today’s technology humankind cannot undo the damage caused by global warming, but we can slow or even halt it by not taking any more fossil fuels out of the ground. If this ancient carbon stays buried it cannot harm our atmosphere by being converted into dangerous greenhouse gases. This cannot be done overnight without damaging our way of life, but over the next 25 years, with a focus on renewable energy, Australia will reach a stage when we don’t need to extract any more coal or gas.

The use of Brunstock batteries in your commercial or grid-scale project offers an ideal solution for managing the variability of renewables and replacing the antiquated, inefficient fossil-fuel-powered generators.

By installing these advanced batteries, KTECK is supporting a more sustainable and flexible grid, helping to increase the value and output of Australia’s existing renewable energy assets.

How do Brunstock batteries work?

Grid-scale Brunstock batteries charge by receiving electricity from renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind farms whenever excess electricity is directed to the battery system for storage. This stored energy can later be discharged, for example, to help meet peak power demands or provide a consistent supply of energy even when the wind isn’t blowing, or the sun isn’t shining. Battery storage is already the leading provider of frequency control ancillary services (FCAS) in the Australian National Energy Market (NEM). This helps maintain the stability of the power system.

Brunstock batteries can respond in a split second to help stabilise the grid and are able to turn on/off much faster than thermal generators, making them ideal renewable firming assets.

The future of battery storage with KTECK BESS

Deployment of batteries is growing rapidly, and KTECK is ready to meet the demands of this revolution. Dozens of large-scale batteries are under construction in Australia, right now. In March 2023 the CSIRO predicted that ‘across the NEM, an additional 59–69 GWh of storage capacity will be required by 2030,’ so there’s still much more work to be done.
